What is EDGE you ask?
EDGE is a youth group for junior high students of the parish that meets at IHM on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the school year and runs from September-March.This group is run primarily by IHM’s Youth Minister, and a faith based leadership team of high-school volunteers known as the IHM Fire Starters. Know a high-schooler interested in joining? Look below for more info!
The EDGE junior high program is all about teens being on the EDGE of their faith. Junior high is an important time of transition.Teens begin to decide whether or not their faith is just their parents faith, or if they will choose to actively make it their own faith as well. EDGE is an opportunity for students to understand what a relationship with Christ looks like and an opportunity to begin to actively participate in the wonderful adventure that life with Christ is! Being at EDGE is a wild ride! EDGE might mean trying to make a pineapple explode one minute, and praying for Jesus to give us the grace to practice loving the people in our lives better the next! EDGE nights are fun opportunities for friendship, games, and most importantly opportunities to practice our faith with like minded teens. EDGE is done best when they give opportunities for fun, mentorship, and time to be guided in personal prayer and understanding of our Catholic faith. This program also includes a once a year retreat opportunity for all middle schoolers and two retreats a year for 8th grade students!
This program is in partnership with our RAP program and is built into students' religious education curriculum if they are a part of the IHM RAP program. However, all students of the parish are welcome to join us anytime, just bring $3 for snacks, the signed liability form below, and email our youth minister to let her know you’re coming! We hope to see you there!
IHM EDGE Fire Starters Program
“If you are what you should be, you will set the world ablaze.”- St Catherine of Siena
High-School Teens we need you! Are you looking for a fun way to get service hours, leadership opportunities to put on a college resume, or an opportunity to engage in your faith? Are you willing to get sprayed with shaving cream, act dramatically in skits, play goofy games with younger teens, share your faith, and learn how to lead teens in prayer? If you answered yes to any of these questions then maybe God is calling you to be a Fire Starter at IHM!
Fire Starters are high-school teens of IHM who help lead EDGE on Mondays twice a month during the 2021-2022 school year! The Fire starters leading EDGE are teens who are learning how to live out their faith in their own lives and are graciously willing to share their hearts, silliness, and walk in the faith with middle-school students. Being a Fire Starter is a fun opportunity which includes fellowship with other teens and ways to get leadership and evangelization training while obtaining service hours. Firstarters are asked to attend EDGE meetings 40 minutes before EDGE begins, (6:15pm) for a meeting and to help with EDGE set up and clean up after EDGE is finished. Teens may additionally be asked to attend other meetings outside of EDGE as needed, as well as a yearly weekend team building retreat and to be a part of planning and running the yearly EDGE and Theology of the Body retreats. Email our youth minister to sign up and to get more information and also so that she can add you to the chat on Group Me!
